Environmental Expert Explains Cause Of Ghana’s Extreme Heat
Gabriel Kumi, an environmental specialist, has noted that the frequent burning of trees for charcoal manufacture is partially to blame for Ghana’s excessive heat.
He emphasized the need for the government to solve this issue as soon as possible in an interview with Adom FM’s Burning Issues, along with other environmental risks including galamsey (illegal mining).
He emphasized that the extensive removal of trees for the manufacturing of charcoal adds to the release of greenhouse gases, which raise temperatures by trapping heat in the atmosphere. It also reduces the amount of forest cover.
Mr. Kumi claims that Ghana’s widespread deforestation has made the already extreme heat in the nation worse.
In order to lessen dependency on charcoal, he advocated for more awareness and government action to support sustainable forestry practices and other energy sources.
In order to lessen the effects of climate change and lessen dependency on charcoal, he provided education on the value of making investments in alternative energy sources like LPG.
Mr. Kumi further chastised the administration for failing to address the underlying causes of these problems and protect the nation’s natural resources for coming generations.
