Equatorial Guinea: Officials To Be Dismissed Over Intimate Office Affairs
The government of Equatorial Guinea has declared that any official, whether public or private, who is seen having sex on the job would be fired right away.
The action was taken in response to more than 400 explicit recordings that have gone viral on social media and show former National Financial Investigation Agency (ANIF) Director General Baltasar Ebang Engonga engaging in intimate actions. Some of the videos were purportedly taken at his place of employment.
Government spokesperson Fernando Ferry Mitogo made the announcement on November 2, 2024, and it is a part of a larger initiative to maintain professional standards and promote a courteous workplace in both the public and private sectors.
The goal of the authorities is to uphold professionalism, ethics, and accountability in the workplace.
The controversy surrounding Ebang Engonga, popularly known as “Bello,” has garnered a lot of attention. Videos purportedly showed Ebang Engonga having sex with several women, including some who were married, in a variety of settings, including his office, with the flag of the country flying in the backdrop.
Although these interactions were reportedly consensual, the fact that they took place in a work environment has stoked public indignation and demands for government intervention.
According to officials, the goal of these new disciplinary actions is to set a clear standard for appropriate behavior in Equatorial Guinea’s institutions.
By taking a stance, the government hopes to repair the harm done to the nation’s reputation and guarantee a more civil and moral workplace culture going forward.
The directive’s effects on privacy and workplace standards have generated discussion among inhabitants of Equatorial Guinea and worldwide.
Authorities, however, are adamant that any actions that compromise the credibility of national institutions would not be accepted.
