Extended Hours For Passport Office: Day, Night, & Dawn Shifts – Ablakwa Announces

As part of the government’s 24-hour economy goal, Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has asked passport office employees to get ready for longer workdays, including day, night, and morning shifts.

Speaking at the passport offices in Accra, he underlined that one of the main objectives of the reform is for applicants to have their passports within a week of submitting their applications.

In order to expedite applicant verification, Ablakwa also disclosed plans to use chip-embedded passports and link passport data with the National Identification Authority system.

He declared plans to update passport fees, lowering expenses for regular applicants while raising rates for premium services, reaffirming his commitment to modernize the Foreign Affairs Ministry.

You have also heard about our big reforms that we want to carry out. We want the Passport Administration in our country to become a 24-hour operation,” he stated.

“This year [2025], you need to stand and get ready, prepare yourselves. We’re going to run three shifts. We want to cut down on the waiting time for passports.

“We believe that within a week, it should be possible to get a Ghanaian passport when you apply for it. The 24-hour economy intervention we’re making will address that,” he added.
