Family Seeks Justice For Police Officer Fatally Shot In Abease

The Ghana Police Service is being urged to provide justice and an official statement by the family of Police Constable Kennedy Ofori Boateng, who was shot dead at a police barrier on the Prang to Kintampo Road in the Bono East Region.

A gathering of mourners was halted at a standard police roadblock on Sunday, December 15, 2024.

When a female officer was allegedly insulted by one of the mourners, tensions increased and backup was called. One of the responding officers was Constable Kennedy Ofori Boateng.

When the mourners attacked and attempted to disarm one of the officers, the situation worsened much more.

Constable Kennedy was unintentionally shot in the abdomen during the resulting altercation.

The family said they were upset because, although the incident occurred in the morning, they were not informed until late at night by a police officer who mistook Kennedy’s murder for election-related violence.

However, footage of the events leading up to his death that are making the rounds online indicate differently.

The Ghana Police Service has not yet provided the family with any official correspondence or assistance, and they have not seen Kennedy’s remains since Sunday.

The family is calling for responsibility for the unfortunate event and an official response from the police.
