FDA Warns Public Against Consuming Palm Oil Contaminated with Sudan Dye

Because of persistent worries about adulteration, the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has advised customers to exercise utmost caution when purchasing palm oil.

This alert comes in response to the FDA’s continued efforts to address the inclusion of dangerous compounds, especially the infamous “Sudan Four” dye, which has been discovered in certain commercially available palm oil products.

Due to its carcinogenic qualities, this industrial dye is prohibited from use in food products and presents a serious risk to consumer health.

Roderick Daddey-Adjei, the Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the FDA, voiced grave concerns on the issue’s continued existence in spite of the Authority’s strict enforcement actions.

Although he noted that the incidence of tainted palm oil has decreased, he emphasized that even a small amount of contamination is unacceptable.

“We are still not satisfied with the small percentage that remains, as it indicates that those responsible for this activity are still operating in the shadows. We want to make it clear to anyone considering continuing this practice that their time is running out. In our recent crackdown, we made some arrests and handed them over to the police,” Daddey-Adjei stated.
