Finance Ministry Donates GH¢1.2m To Komfo Anokye Hospital Project
The Ministry of Finance has granted GH¢1.2 million to the Heal Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) Project to aid in the removal of ten tile containers from the port.
The Ministry clarifies that the act is part of its support for the Heal Komfo Anokye Project.
It is a response to the project’s request for a waiver of import duty taxes on goods intended for hospital renovations.
The project exceeded the support by around GH¢600,000 in order to remove the ten containers intended for KATH rehabilitation from the Tema Port.
Background story
In April, KATH management asked the government, via the Ministry of Health, for a waiver on import duties for the Heal Komfo Anokye Project. They had received 10 containers of hospital tiles with an import duty of over GH¢1.70 million.
The Ministry of Finance then donated GH¢1.20 million to KATH to clear the tiles and avoid demurrage.
The Heal Komfo Anokye Project, part of the 25th anniversary of Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II’s enstoolment, aims to raise $10 million to upgrade the 70-year-old facility to a modern tertiary hospital.
To date, the project has received contributions from fifteen businesses, five financial institutions, eight churches, and one telecommunications provider.
