Five Dead After Vehicle Plunges Into Owabi River In Ashanti Region

A car carrying five persons drove off the Dabaa-Akropong route and fell into the Owabi River in the Ashanti area, causing the deaths of five individuals.

The driver of the private Opel salon car, her two female daughters, and two more passengers—a female teacher at Akropong Roman Catholic Basic School and a plumber—were among the deceased.

The identity of the woman operating the Opel saloon automobile is still unknown. However, witnesses claim that the vehicle crashed into the river, which had overflowed due to recent rainfall.

On Tuesday morning, a rescue team comprising members of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), Fire Service, and Police spent hours extracting the dead from the river.

The fact that the kids were wearing their school uniforms suggested that they were headed to class.

Francis Bobie-Ansah, a witness to the accident and the presiding member of the Atwima Nwabiagya North District Assembly, called it regrettable.

He tells Nhyira FM that it’s still unknown what caused the mishap and the deceased person’s drowning.

Mr. BobieHowever, Ansah is positive that the catastrophe may have been caused in part by the Owabi River’s overflowing banks.

While police investigations are ongoing, the deceased people’s bodies have been placed in the morgue for preservation.
