In an effort to cope with the difficult economic climate, more companies are considering leaving Ghana and reducing staff, according to Samuel Aggrey, General Secretary of the Food and Beverages Association.
On May 2, 2024, he revealed the information with host George Wiafe on PM Express Business Edition.
He continued by saying that the corporations that have already departed made their choice after attempting to work with the government and other authorities on several occasions, but without success.
For instance, Mr. Aggrey brought out how the cedi’s ongoing depreciation hasn’t been beneficial and has played a significant role in the firms closing.
He revealed that the government has not gone far enough in shielding domestic companies from the damaging effects of low-cost imports.
What he said:
“It has been a very difficult decision for most of these businesses, and if government does not take steps to deal with their concerns, they will not be left with any option than to relocate”,
“The situation is getting very bad, most of these firms have to comprehend , with unreliable utility supply”.
