Former Ghanaian Auditor-General (AG) Mr. Daniel Yao Domelevo has cautioned the incoming John Mahama administration not to take the landslide election win for granted.
He claims that the majority of Members of Parliament (MPs) that the electorate awarded to former President Mahama during the December 7 elections are there to enable him to carry out beneficial projects for the nation.
“It will be expected that he leaves a legacy that we can say that we have lived through four years of unprecedented, good governance. That he is not going to say because I have the majority in parliament we will pass through parliament and get approved policies which are not good for the people. Any changes or amendments to the constitutions and the laws of Ghana, that will help us to ensure a better governance, I think I am all for it”
Speaking to the media in response to the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) resounding victory in the 2024 elections, Mr. Domelevo made the call.
In order to improve accountability, he also demanded that the Attorney General’s (AG) and Justice Minister’s offices be completely separated.
He maintained that a cabinet minister such as the AG could not be held responsible by his fellow AG.
The former Auditor-General also advised Mr. Mahama to start working right away after taking office in order to retrieve the stolen money, as he had pledged, and to not give up because there was still work to be done.
