Former IGP Is Dead

J.Y.A Kwofie, a former Inspector-General General of Police(IGP), has sadly passed away.

According to sources from Adom News, Mr. Kwofie passed away on the afternoon of Thursday, May 2, 2024.

He had battled illness for several years and also struggled with dementia.

Mr. Kwofie, who was over 90 years old, served as Inspector-General General of Police (IGP) from January 1, 1990, to September 30, 1996. Throughout his tenure, he contributed significantly to the law enforcement landscape of Ghana, leaving a lasting impact on the police force and the country as a whole.

Following Mr. Kwofie’s tenure, Peter Tenganabang Nanfuri succeeded him as Inspector-General General of Police (IGP). Sadly, Mr. Nanfuri passed away in February 2023. Beyond his role in law enforcement, Mr. Nanfuri was also the Paramount Chief of the Jirapa Traditional Area, holding the esteemed title of Naa Ansoleh Ganaa II, thereby leaving a significant legacy both in policing and traditional leadership.
