Former Minerals Commission CEO Sues Adom-Otchere For GH¢40M Over Defamation
Dr. Tony Aubynn, the former CEO of the Minerals Commission, has sued Good Evening Ghana host Paul Adom-Otchere for slander.
The second defendant in the lawsuit, which was filed on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, is Ignite Media Group.
Dr. Aubynn, the Abakoma-Akyempimhene of the Damang-Wassa Division under the Fiase Traditional Area in the Western Region, stated in his statement of claim that Mr. Adom-Otchere was accused of encouraging people to participate in illegal mining, or galamsey, in a video that went viral on September 10.
According to Dr. Aubynn, these remarks were meant to harm his public image and were defamatory.
He is requesting that the Accra High Court order Mr. Adom-Otchere to retract his remarks and offer an unconditional apology via the same media outlets where the claimed defamatory remarks were published.
Dr. Aubynn is also requesting a permanent injunction to prevent the defendants and their associates from mentioning him in any way in the future.
Dr. Aubynn alleges that the suit’s portrayal of him as dishonest, egotistical, hypocritical, corrupt, unpatriotic, and unscrupulous has exposed him to public mockery and scorn, and it also seeks GH¢30 million in general damages.
In addition, the plaintiff is suing the defendants for GH¢10 million in exemplary and punitive damages.
