Former Presidential Aspirant In Nigeria Thrown Out Of Residence Over Unpaid Rent

Due to accusations of unpaid rent and other issues, Tunde Omosebi, a former All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, was forced to leave his Abuja home.

A court enforcement team accompanied by police officials evicted Omosebi from the residence in a posh neighborhood of Abuja on November 15, according to a widely shared video on X (previously Twitter).

The owner of the home, who spoke to Pulse Nigeria on condition of anonymity, disclosed that Omosebi’s lease had expired more than four years prior. Omosebi allegedly refused to leave the premises in spite of multiple attempts to collect unpaid invoices.

In response to the landlord’s grievances, Omosebi wrote a letter on June 30, 2022, announcing his desire to end the lease.

“Due to irreconcilable differences on your breach of agreements, we opt out of renewing our lease. This letter serves as notice to vacate your property within the allowable period,” the letter obtained by our reporter reads. However, the landlord resorted to legal action after Omosebi failed to leave.

“I had to use his letter to file for eviction. He claimed ownership of the house but never appeared in court until the final judgment,” the landlord said.

The claims of voodoo rituals fueled the dispute. The landlord said that the property was filled with diabolic objects, such as skulls, cow bones, and calabashes covered in crimson fabric.

According to a witness who wished to remain anonymous, “he kills four cows every Thursday for rituals.”

Reporter visit to the house verified the existence of these items, which heightened the interest in the court case. The landlord further claimed that the judge who rendered the final decision lost a close relative and that a magistrate supervising the case passed away during the court procedures.

Omosebi disputed all accusations and his identity when asked for comment, asserting that he was the rightful owner of the land.

He hung up and refused to allow our reporter to call him again on his cell phone when she pressed him for a complete story.

Discussions concerning responsibility and the duties of public leaders have been triggered by the eviction.

The episode serves as a reminder of the value of leaders acting ethically and transparently while investigations are ongoing.
