Four arrested over murder of Tanoso Akwamuhene

The Ghana Police Service has arrested four persons in connection with the murder of the Akwamuhene of Tanoso, near Techiman, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has announced.

The suspects are Isefu Addae, also known as Akwasi Addae, Stephen Benne, Augustine Ahiniful, and Martha Mansah. Police say four other individuals are being pursued as persons of interest.

According to a statement dated November 13, 2025, and signed by Chief Inspector Brigitte Babaanwo, Public Relations Officer of the CID, preliminary investigations revealed that the late Chief, Nana Owusu Koko, had been destooled as Akwamuhene of Tanoso prior to his death.

The statement added that the deceased rejected his removal and engaged his family in several disputes and legal actions.

Police reports indicated that the 74-year-old traditional leader was shot while working on his farm and later pronounced dead at the Holy Family Hospital.

Investigators found his body in a pool of blood with about 15 visible pellet wounds.

The incident, which occurred in the early hours of Monday, November 10, 2025, has drawn attention across the Bono East Region.

The four suspects are currently assisting the police with investigations. Dr Babaanwo said efforts have been intensified to track down the remaining suspects to face justice.

The Bono East Regional CID has taken over the case and is urging the public to provide credible information that could help arrest the remaining suspects.
