Ghana’s winless campaign in the just finished 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifications has caused them to drop four spots in the most recent FIFA Rankings.
The four-time African champions are currently rated 77th in November after finishing 73rd in October.
The team also fell six spots in September following a draw with Niger in Morocco and a home loss to Angola, indicating a continuing downward trend. With a 2-0 loss in the rematch and a goalless draw against Sudan in Accra in October, there were more disappointments.
With three ties and three loses in their six games, Ghana ended the AFCON qualifiers without a single victory. The Black Stars have not qualified for the coveted tournament for the first time in 20 years.
The Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) is apparently planning to keep Otto Addo as the team’s head coach in spite of these subpar showings and the decline in rankings.
But the Black Stars will play again in March 2025 when they play Madagascar and Chad in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
