The government’s refusal to stop the controversial National Roads Authority Act, 2024 (Act 1118) from going into effect is the direct cause of the walkout.

The departure of two important officials—Ing. Collins B. Donkor, the Chief Executive Officer of the NRA, and Ing. I.K. Mensah, the Chairman of the Ghana Highway Authority (GHA) Board—is at the center of the conflict.

The employees contend that these officials have participated in choices that jeopardize the integrity of the transportation industry.

This most recent development comes after workers formally petitioned President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for more extensive consultations before the new Act was put into effect.
