Ghana’s Waters Will Take Years to Recover – A Rocha Ghana
It would take the nation several years to return the water bodies to their original state, according to Daryl Bossu, the deputy national director of the nonprofit organization A Rocha Ghana, which promotes environmental conservation.
He discussed the several causes of soil erosion and water contamination in an interview with Adom News. He also underlined the need of avoiding actions that exacerbate the issue.
According to Mr. Bossu’s research, the presence of chemicals in the water bodies will necessitate at least five years for their recuperation.
Additionally, he stressed the necessity of taking preventative action to stop environmental pollution, saying that with such action, the water will eventually return to its normal state.
He stated:
“If we take proactive measures to protect our environment against pollution, the water will gradually return to its normal state. Water can look beautiful but the quality may be different it is something we should think about. The extraction of minerals has led to the release of contaminants such as heavy chemicals, mercury etc. into water sources, rendering them unwholesome and inhabitable”.
“We have the opportunity to enhance our water quality by eliminating harmful chemicals. Additionally, research indicates that we can rejuvenate our rivers, streams, and land, although this process may require time or even several years, if not more than five (5),”
