GMet Issues A Warning On Dangerous State of the Sea

An urgent notice warning of a severe sea state that is predicted to threaten Ghana’s coast has been released by the Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet).

According to the advisory, the coastal areas will be affected by considerable wave heights and powerful currents, which could seriously endanger people’s lives and property.

According to the forecast, wave heights will increase to 2.2–2.6 meters on Tuesday, May 21, 2024. These dangerous circumstances are expected to last until Wednesday, May 22, 2024, when wave heights will range from 2.0–2.7 meters.

Strong currents will accompany these waves, raising the risk to coastal residents and mariners.

High waves and choppy seas are two possible effects of these conditions that pose a serious risk to people’s lives and property.

Small coastal boats may have extreme trouble navigating, and swimmers and surfers are more likely to be involved in accidents due to the strong currents.

Furthermore, low-lying areas may experience coastal flooding and erosion, intensifying the hazard to coastal populations.

GMet advises sailors to steer clear of operating boats offshore or in choppy waters and to proceed with the utmost caution.

Till the dangerous conditions pass, small craft should seek safe harbor, and all marine safety equipment should be inspected to make sure it is in good operating order.

It is recommended that the general public and marine operators follow GMet updates in order to remain informed.

To protect public safety, the organization will keep an eye on the circumstances and offer updates as needed.
