GoldBod extends deadline for new gold trading license regime to June 21

The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has announced a one-month extension to the deadline for the transition to its new gold trading license regime, shifting the date from May 21, 2025, to June 21, 2025. This move follows a series of petitions from key stakeholders across the gold trading sector.

In a press statement issued on Thursday, GoldBod explained that individuals and companies holding licenses issued by the defunct Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC) or the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources can continue to trade gold using their current licenses until the new deadline.

The statement clarified, however, that after June 21, 2025, only traders with a valid GoldBod license will be permitted to purchase, sell, or deal in gold. Any activities conducted with expired or non-GoldBod licenses beyond this date will be considered unlawful.

“This extension provides stakeholders with additional time to comply with the new licensing framework,” the statement read. “It must be emphasized that no person will be allowed to operate under the old license regime after the 21st of June, 2025.”

GoldBod reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring a smooth transition and urged all stakeholders to take prompt steps toward obtaining the new license. The initiative is part of broader efforts to regulate the gold trade and maximize national benefits from Ghana’s rich mineral resources, aligning with the vision of former President John Dramani Mahama.
