According to Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Minister of Foreign Affairs, the government would do away with the COVID-19 charge in its upcoming budget.
Speaking to hundreds of Ghanaians living in Benin, the minister said, “The government has promised to remove four taxes imposed by the previous administration, and now there is just one more tax to scrap.”
As the Foreign Minister pointed out that the betting tax, E-Levy, and emissions tax had already been eliminated after the president’s approval of the laws on April 2, the audience clapped and applauded.
In addition, he gave the Ghanaian community an update on events back home and urged them to maintain their confidence in the Mahama administration’s ability to fulfill its promises to the people.
He, however, mentioned that “the government is investing in the youth by setting aside funds to cater for their needs.”
