In an attempt to combat illegal mining activities known as galamsey, the government will perform a passing out ceremony for Blue Water Guards in the Western Region on Monday, April 14, 2025.
Launched on Monday, March 17, the Blue Water Guard Initiative aims to repair contaminated water resources and reduce the threat of unlawful mining by providing 24-hour surveillance of the nation’s water bodies.
However, organizations like A Rocha Ghana and the Media Coalition Against Illegal Mining have questioned the initiative’s efficacy, claiming that its execution over the years has had no results.
