Gunmen opened fire on a bus that was moving from Bawku to Bolgatanga, killing one person and critically injuring five others.
The attackers attacked the bus, which was reportedly being escorted by the military at the time of the attack.
The military commanders who were with them were able to control the situation and stop more deaths.
For immediate medical care, the wounded victims have been taken to Bolgatanga’s Upper East Regional Hospital.
Although the attack’s motivation is yet unknown, it is said to be connected to the ongoing chieftaincy dispute in Bawku.
Before gunmen in military clothes recently assaulted a home and killed a woman and her two children, the Bawku neighborhood had been relatively peaceful for approximately two weeks.
This latest attack has raised the total number of deaths in the area to 46 since the conflict re-emerged in October 2024.
Tensions have escalated significantly following these developments, with residents expressing fear and calling for increased security measures to prevent further violence.
