Under the direction of Justice Addae, the Koforidua High Court dismissed a petition contesting Frank Annoh-Dompreh’s election, ruling in favor of the Member of Parliament for the Nsawam/Adoagyiri Constituency.
The ruling followed the assessment and upholding of an application submitted by Gary Nimako Marfo, the Director of Legal Affairs for the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
In order to contest the MP’s parliamentary seat, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) had promised to use every available legal option.
The NDC strongly objected to the MP’s statement, claiming it was based on erroneous result sheets and did not comply with electoral laws.
Annoh-Dompreh, the Electoral Commission, and the Clerk of Parliament must appear before the Koforidua High Court bailiff on Tuesday, February 25, according to a substituted order.
The NDC filed an electoral petition alleging that the Electoral Commission had improperly declared in favor of Annoh-Dompreh, and this order was related to that petition.
The action questioned the validity of Annoh-Dompreh’s election as the MP for Nsawam Adoagyiri and was led by Fummey Selorm Philibert, a parliamentary candidate for the NDC, and his legal team.
However, the court’s decision on Thursday, April 10, not only denied the petition but also assessed the petitioner GH₵25,000 in costs.
This outcome solidifies Annoh-Dompreh’s position as the elected representative for the constituency, bringing an end to the legal challenge against his election.
