Kennedy Agyapong, a former presidential candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and Assin Central Member of Parliament, has stated that he has not left the party.
Additionally, he denied rumors that he plans to run in the general election in 2024 as an independent.
During his 64th birthday celebration, the Assin Central MP said that running on your own would not be “a wise decision” while speaking at his campaign office in Accra.
Mr Agyapong stated:
“What I want the NPP party faithful to know is that I have not resigned from the party. I am not going independent. I am still an NPP member,”
“So I am pleading with NPP supporters that with a united front, we can win the election in 2024,”
He emphasized the need for party cohesion, saying that there are just “NPP supporters,” not separate “Ken Agyapong supporters” or “Bawumia supporters.”
Mr. Agyapong asked all party members to put aside their disagreements and work toward the party’s shared objective of “Breaking the 8” in the presence of NPP chairman Stephen Ayensu Ntim.
The Assin Central MP expressed regret to his core followers, stressing that party unity is essential for electoral success, for not providing them with enough information about his choice to join Dr. Bawumia’s campaign in Kumasi.
Additionally, he urged Dr. Bawumia’s campaign team and backers to honor his act of reconciliation and refrain from persecuting his supporters.
