Interior Minister renews Bawku curfew

Interior Minister renews Bawku curfew, it is now from 8pm to 5am

The Minister for the Interior, Mohammed-Mubarak Muntaka, has renewed the curfew imposed in the Bawku Municipality and its environs from 8:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m., effective Monday, August 18.

A statement from the Ministry called on chiefs, elders, opinion leaders, youth, and residents to exercise restraint in the face of current challenges and to adopt non-violent approaches in pursuing peace.

The statement also announced a total ban on the carrying of arms, ammunition, or offensive weapons in the municipality and surrounding areas. It warned that any person found in possession of such items would be arrested and prosecuted.

The curfew follows the closure of the Bolgatanga Technical Institute (BOTECH) last week, after a violent student protest on August 15 left six students injured and several school properties destroyed by fire.
