Interior Minister Takes On Additional Role As Acting National Security Minister

Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka, the interior minister, has been given more duties as the acting national security minister by President John Dramani Mahama.
Speaker Alban Bagbin formally informed Parliament of the decision during sessions on Friday, March 7, 2025, in compliance with Section 24 of the Securities and Intelligence Act 2020 (Act 1030).
In addition to his responsibilities as Interior Minister, Mubarak Muntaka is anticipated to supervise national security activities.
The declaration is made as the government steps up its efforts to guarantee public safety and handle new security threats.
President Mahama hopes to improve efficiency and coordination within the nation’s security system by combining the functions of the National Security Minister and the Interior Minister.
As part of his pledge to run a lean and effective government, President Mahama abolished several sectoral ministries and dissolved others when he took office.
The Ministry of Information, the Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources, and the Ministry of National Security were among the important ministries impacted.
