John Boadu: NPP Running Mate Hopefuls Would Be Disappointed

The ex-General Secretary of the NPP John Boadu has quelled the hopes of contenders seeking the party’s running mate role. He asserted that the position is not subject to competition and suggested that those purportedly campaigning for it will not succeed.

His remarks come amid ongoing discussions about selecting a running mate to NPP flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

Key contenders include Mathew Opoku Prempeh, Dr. Yaw Adutwum, Frema Osei Opare, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, and Joseph Osei Owusu.

However, Boadu is confident that none of the frontrunners will secure the position on the announcement of a runnung mate. He clarified that in the NPP, the National Council has the final say on the running mate, which means the flagbearer’s preference may not necessarily be accepted.

“The presidential candidate has a preference but if the National Council rejects it, he has to elect another”.

John Boadu emphasized that the chosen mate will be someone capable of assisting the NPP in maintaining power.

Dr. Bawumia emerged as the flagbearer of the NPP through an internal selection process within the party. As the Vice President,he garnered support from party members and leaders alike due to his track record, leadership qualities, and vision for the country’s development. He was backed by extensive consultations and endorsements within the party. This led to his eventual nomination as the flagbearer for the upcoming elections.
