The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has removed former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta from its list of wanted persons, no longer considering him a fugitive from justice.
Ofori-Atta was declared wanted on February 12, 2025, after failing to indicate a reasonable timeframe for his return to Ghana despite being under investigation for alleged corruption and related offenses. The OSP had directed him to appear in Accra for questioning, but his absence led to him being labeled a fugitive.
However, the former minister, through his lawyers, later communicated a definite date for his voluntary return. The OSP, deeming this commitment reasonable, accepted his request and rescheduled his appearance accordingly.
While Ofori-Atta is no longer on the wanted list, the OSP has warned that if he fails to return as promised or does not attend the rescheduled questioning, he will be reinstated as a wanted person, and legal steps will be taken to secure his return.
The OSP reaffirmed its commitment to accountability, ensuring that due process and fairness remain at the core of its actions.
