Kennedy Agyapong best bet for NPP victory in 2028

Kennedy Agyapong best bet for NPP victory in 2028 - NPP Tano North Constituency Secretary

The Tano North Constituency Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Stephen Ntiamoah, has openly declared his support for Kennedy Ohene Agyapong as the party’s best chance of reclaiming power in the 2028 general elections.

Mr Ntiamoah urged delegates in the constituency to rally behind the Assin Central MP, describing him as the only candidate with genuine grassroots appeal. He argued that Mr Agyapong had the ability to unite the party after its defeat in the 2024 elections and would “put together a team from all factions in the party to create a united front.”

He appealed to delegates and constituents to vote “strategically” for a candidate who could secure victory for the NPP in 2028, insisting that Mr Agyapong was a “noble candidate” with the strength to deliver.

However, his comments have sparked controversy within the constituency. The Member of Parliament for Tano North and spokesperson for former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Dr Gideon Boako, has strongly rebutted reports suggesting he had little faith in Dr Bawumia’s chances in 2028.

Mr Ntiamoah was alleged to have told delegates that Dr Boako only backed Dr Bawumia out of loyalty, despite believing he could not win the next presidential election.

In a sharp response, Dr Boako dismissed the claims outright, branding them as “wicked lies.”

The exchanges highlight the internal tensions within the NPP as the party begins early manoeuvring ahead of the 2028 flagbearer contest.
