Keta MCE’s Private Building On Reclaimed Land Destroyed

On Sunday morning, some unidentified men stormed the area to demolish the Municipal Chief Executive’s building because of unresolved issues regarding the management of the Keta reclaimed land and allegations that the MCE had stolen the land intended for a stadium in order to build a private residence on it.

In addition to the partially collapsed private-story building of Emmanuel Gemegah, the Keta Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), they also destroyed a Rocky Amugi fence wall nearby.

Around 9 a.m. on Sunday, December 29, 2024, they arrived at the location of the Keta-reclaimed lands at Adzido-Aflasco, close to Emancipation Beach, armed and carrying two bulldozers.

The police had to step in to prevent the unnamed men from destroying the structure any more.

Similar to this, the youth in October 2024 descended on the MCE headquarters and scribbled “Stop Work” on it, claiming that the MCE was constructing unlawfully on land that had been set up for a stadium in Keta.

The developers disregarded the warnings and carried on with their work, despite their claims that the subject was before the High Court in Sogakope.

The recovered property has been the subject of several public protests in the area, with the goal of preventing the Keta MCE from allocating the land for the construction of private properties.
