Late Krachi East MCE ‘s Office Ravaged by Fire
In the nocturnal hours of Thursday, a conflagration engulfed the premises of the late Bernard Aborkugya Mensah, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Krachi East, resulting in the destruction of crucial documents and assets within the office located in Dambai.
The origins of the fire remain shrouded in mystery, prompting the commencement of investigations by the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) to ascertain the cause of the outbreak.
Mr. Aborkugya Mensah, who served as the MCE of Krachi East Municipality, tragically passed away on April 5, 2024, following a tenure of merely one year in office, adding a layer of complexity to the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Nominated by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as a successor to the late Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Francis Kofi Okesu, who passed away in September 2022, the deceased assumed the role with an unanticipated brevity, reflecting the transitory nature of leadership transitions within the administrative framework.
Assistant Divisional Officer 1 (ADO1) Stephen Agortor, stationed at the Dambai Fire Command, corroborated the occurrence when contacted by the Ghana News Agency (GNA), elucidating that the event transpired around 2200 hours the preceding night, when the vigilant observation of a passerby compelled their intervention.
ADO1 Agortor recounted that their prompt response led to the mitigation of the flames; however, the aftermath bore witness to the complete annihilation of all contents within the office premises, an outcome fraught with implications for administrative continuity and archival preservation.
In the wake of the calamity, the conjectural narratives that have emerged from the public sphere delineate a spectrum of suspicions, ranging from allegations of deliberate incendiarism to hypotheses implicating electrical grid failures, thereby complicating the efforts of investigative authorities striving to unravel the enigmatic origins of the conflagration.
