The Agricultural Development Bank’s (ADB) board chairman, Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong II, the Kwahumanhene, has resigned.
The Bank of Ghana (BoG) issued a directive on the resignation, which is effective immediately, in response to claims of GH₵2 million in extortion.
In a formal announcement of the departure, ADB praised Daasebre Agyapong II for leading initiatives that set the bank up for long-term success.
Collins Darkwa, a Bank customer, filed a petition with the Office of the President, claiming that the Kwahumanhene had demanded a large sum of money from him in return for a GH₵12 million loan.
The merchant stated that in order for the chief to approve the 12 million Ghana cedis, he required an upfront payment of GH₵50,000.00 and an additional loan.
He therefore appealed to the Presidency to help him recover a total amount of GH₵2,408,000.00 from the immediate past Board Chairman.
“Under pressure from my suppliers to procure logistics for the cashew to be supplied, I had no other choice than to agree to the conditions”, Mr. Darkwa said.
