Veteran host of Peace FM’s flagship political program, ‘Kokrokoo,’ Kwame Sefa Kayi, has made a heartfelt appeal to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to return to the show.
This comes after a five-year boycott initiated due to a dispute between NDC’s Sammy Gyamfi and Sefa Kayi. The disagreement led the NDC to officially withdraw from the program, resulting in their prolonged absence.
In a conversation with Nana Yaw Kesse on the program, Sefa Kayi took full responsibility for the events that led to the NDC’s departure and urged the party to reconcile and rejoin the show. He emphasized the importance of collaboration in the interest of democracy and the nation.
“As the host of the program, I take full responsibility for what happened… I urge them to come back so we can work together,” he stated.
Following his plea, social media has been flooded with reactions, with many criticizing Sefa Kayi and advising the NDC against returning to the program.
Background
The NDC’s boycott of ‘Kokrokoo’ began in May 2020, citing concerns over the show’s paneling system, which they felt was biased. Despite efforts by Peace FM’s management to resolve the issue, including a letter in September 2020 urging the NDC to “let sleeping dogs lie” and return to the program , the party maintained its stance. At that time, NDC’s Communications Officer, Sammy Gyamfi, stated that the party had no intention of returning to the show and dismissed it as “overhyped” .
Kwame Sefa Kayi’s recent appeal marks a renewed effort to mend the relationship between ‘Kokrokoo’ and the NDC, highlighting the significance of diverse political discourse in Ghana’s media landscape.
