Lawyer: Use Intel Agencies To Seize MASLOC CEO’s Properties
Nana Agyei Baffour Barfour Awuah, a private lawyer, has suggested that the state prosecution utilize intelligence agencies to confiscate the assets of imprisoned ex-MASLOC CEO, Sedinam Tamakloe. He emphasized the significance of freezing her assets as an alternative to imprisonment, recognizing the challenges of incarcerating an absent individual.
“I supported the notion of trying her in absentia. The court had given her ample opportunities to appear, but she refused, which I think led to her conviction. I don’t think it would be difficult for the state to seize her properties despite her absence; they should use all the necessary means and be swift about it.
“If bringing her physically is not feasible, efforts should focus on seizing her assets through the intelligence agencies available in the country to recover funds for the state,”
His statement comes after the former CEO of MASLOC, Sedinam Tamakloe, was sentenced to 10 years in prison with hard labor by an Accra High Court on Tuesday, April 16. Additionally, Daniel Axim, the former Chief Operating Officer of MASLOC, received a five-year jail term.
However, lawyer Awuah suggested that authorities could have employed Interpol to begin the search for her. He voiced concerns about the difficulty of bringing her back to Ghana to serve her sentence.
