Mahama Advises Minority MPs To Avoid Parliament If Reconvened.

The Minority caucus in Parliament has been directed by John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), to resist any move by the Majority group to recall the House prior to the general elections on December 7.

Following the House’s indefinite hiatus on November 7, the Majority Caucus recently petitioned Speaker Alban Bagbin to call an urgent meeting of Parliament to address important government issues.

The Majority proposed November 28 and 29, 2024, as potential dates for a reconvening in their November 22 recall request.

However, Mr. Mahama made it clear to NDC supporters in the Western Region’s Ellembelle that the Minority Caucus would not be returning to the House until after the elections.

He emphasised that the party’s focus remains on ensuring victory in the upcoming polls rather than participating in parliamentary proceedings before the elections.

“Vote for Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah as the Member of Parliament of Ellembele, and if anyone claims that we are not the Majority, let them wait and see the result on [December 7] election day. That is when they will realise that the NDC is the true Majority group.

“We have seen their [the New Patriotic Paarty’s] letter requesting a recall of Parliament asking us to stop campaigning and go to the House. Let them go if they want, but we will not be going. We will continue our campaign. So NDC MPs, don’t go.”
