Mahama Demands Recovery Of Misused Pwalugu Dam Funds

The Attorney General has been instructed by President John Dramani Mahama to retrieve all embezzled money associated with the Pwalugu Multipurpose Dam project, which was started during the Akufo-Addo administration.

Despite the fact that the project, which started in November 2019, has not advanced significantly, the President was indignant about the $12 million that was paid to a contractor.

President Mahama is committed to recovering misplaced public funds and ensuring accountability as part of Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL), his larger anti-corruption strategy.

He called the defunct project site a “crime scene” and promised that those involved would be held accountable.

Speaking to the Upper East Region’s chiefs and citizens, the president reiterated his dedication to finishing the region’s unfinished projects and emphasized that the Pwalugu Dam was intended to promote economic growth and agriculture rather than act as a conduit for misappropriation.

The $11.9 million that was paid to the contractor in 2024 was justified by the Ghana Irrigation Development Authority (GIDA), which stated that it was for mobilization rather than finished construction. President Mahama, however, seems doubtful and is adamant that the stolen money be returned.

He has also given the Finance Minister the responsibility of arranging for the project to be restarted.
