Edward Bawa, the newly appointed Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), has been moved by President John Dramani Mahama to the position of Group CEO of GOIL, the country’s top indigenous oil marketing firm.
In a decision that has drawn a lot of attention, Bawa, who was named head of GNPC on January 16, 2025, to succeed Joseph Dadzie, has now been given the responsibility of overseeing GOIL.
Citi News has learned that the appointment is effective immediately, however the reasons for the abrupt move are yet unknown.
The GNPC CEO job is now unfilled due to the reorganization, and no replacement has been announced as of yet.
Before joining GNPC, Mr. Bawa was the Member of Parliament for Bongo Constituency from 2017 to 2025, where he actively participated in the Parliamentary Committees on Mines and Energy as well as Communications, which helped advance important energy reforms in Ghana. Edward Bawa’s experience goes beyond politics; he was a Communications Consultant for the World Bank’s Oil and Gas Capacity Building Project at the Ministry of Energy. GOIL is a major player in Ghana’s downstream petroleum industry and has been a major contributor to the country’s energy security and economic growth.
There, he led public advocacy efforts and stakeholder engagement for key energy initiatives in Ghana. His credentials also include certifications in petroleum revenue management, upstream agreements, and energy commercialization, solidifying his extensive knowledge of the energy sector.
