Man Sentenced To 5 Years For Damaging Cars At Parliament House

Christopher Kofi Okyere Sorkpa, a preacher, was given a five-year prison sentence by an Accra Circuit Court for damaging car windscreens at Parliament House.

Samuel Bright Asiedu, the presiding judge, sentenced the 33-year-old on six charges of conspiracy and unlawful damage.

Wisdom Ahli, 41, his accomplice, has been placed under police detention on remand in connection with the same crimes.

Superintendent Augustine Yirenkyi, the prosecutor, told the court that Ahli’s charges needed to be amended and asked for an adjournment. A new date of January 9, 2025, has been set for the lawsuit.

The prosecution claims that Inspector Adu Yeboah and Aaron Awuah, the complainants, are Parliament House police officers.

Around 11:00 a.m. on December 18, 2024, Sorkpa and Ahli broke into the Parliament House parking lot. Using an earth chisel hidden in a purse, Sorkpa damaged the windscreens of two Toyota V8 cars, two Toyota Camry saloon cars, and one Rav 4 car that belonged to Parliamentary Service employees and Members of Parliament.

According to reports, Ahli was complimenting Sorkpa as he was causing the harm. Both guys were taken into custody and confessed to the crime in their cautionary statements.

Superintendent Yirenkyi stated, “After investigations, the accused persons were charged with the offences and arraigned before this honourable court.”
