Ministry of Foreign Affairs: We are working to reintegrate 160 Ghanaians being deported

We are working to reintegrate 160 Ghanaians being deported from US - Ablakwa

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has said it was actively working to facilitate the return, reintegration, and reunification of Ghanaians being deported from the United States.

At a press briefing in Accra on Thursday [April 17, 2025] ahead of the ECOWAS at 50 anniversary launch, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, said the government was implementing measures to ensure that affected individuals are welcomed back home with dignity.

“The number, as we have received from our foreign service officials, is about 160 Ghanaians on the deportation list. The deportation exercise is ongoing. On humanitarian and human rights grounds, we have decided not to publicise detailed information about them,” Mr Ablakwa explained.

He noted that there had been no significant updates from Ghana’s Embassy in Washington since the last report but assured that the government remains committed to the welfare of the deportees.

“When they arrive, our team is present to receive them, assist with reintegration, and facilitate reunification with their families. We are also quietly working with other partners because it is important to uphold the dignity of our compatriots and avoid exposing them to undue media scrutiny,” he added.
