National Hilal Committee Sets March 1 As Potential Start Of Ramadan 2025

If the moon is visible, the 2025 Ramadan Fasting will begin on March 1, according to Alhaji Yusif Alhassan, National Chairman of the Hilal Committee.
He states that if the moon is viewed on Saturday, March 1, it will mark the beginning of Ramadan; otherwise, the first day of moon sightings will begin on Friday, February 28.
Speaking during a news conference in Kumasi, Alhaji Alhassan stated that if the moon is not visible, the 30th day of “Sha’ban” will fall on March 1st, and Ramadan will begin on Sunday, March 2nd.
He clarified that other from the seen Ghana moon, the National Hilal Committee is independent of all other moons.
We don’t accept other countries’ first sight of the moon to commence the Ramadan Fasting in Ghana because Prophet Muhammad once said every country should use its first sight of the moon to start the Ramadan Fasting, so we are using the moon of Ghana,” he stated.
He urged the Muslim communities to inform their district Imams when sighted the moon to pass out the information on to the Chief Imam to announce the Ramadan.
Alhaji Yusif Alhassan commended President John Dramani Mahama for the reduction of Hajj fee, which he says will help more Muslims to participate in this year’s pilgrimage.
