NDC MPs Are Not Aware Of The Supreme Court Ruling – Sammy Gyamfi.
The National Communication Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Sammy Gyamfi, has indicated that NDC Members of Parliament (MPs) are not aware of the supreme ruling seeking to set aside the ruling of the Speaker of Parliament regarding the declaration of vacancy of seats of the four NPP Members of Parliament (MPs).
He said this on Joy News’ file on Saturday, 9th November, 2024.
According to Sammy Gyamfi, the plaintiff, Hon Alexander Afenyo Markins didn’t name parliament as a defendant in his suit, as a result, until the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbi, communicates officially to the house of Parliament the order from the supreme Court to stay his earlier ruling declaring the four seats vacant, the NDC Members of Parliament can not be said to have been notified.
“Parliament is not a defendant to the supreme Court action, the supreme has given a ruling, the ruling has been served on the defendant, which is the Speaker of Parliament; until that Speaker of Parliament communicates that ruling to parliament in the records of Parliament, the majority caucus is the NDC,” Mr. Gyamfi said.

In a quick rebuttal, Mr.Sampson Ayenini, the host of the program, drew his attention to the fact that the ruling has been served on the speaker and by extension, Parliament.
He (Sammy Gyamfi) retorted by rhetorically asking if the Speaker has communicated to parliament the ruling of the Supreme Court. Until the speaker does that, according to Sammy Gyamfi, the NDC MPs are not aware and thus are majority in parliament.
Background:
On October 17 this year, the Speaker of Parliament declared four parliamentary seats vacant following a petition from the Minority in Parliament, ending the tenure of the four MPs.
Among the four, Ms. Morrison, Mr. Asante, and Mr. Kwakye-Ackah have filed as independent candidates for the upcoming December 7 elections. Mr. Asiamah Amoako, who previously served as the Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament until Mr. Bagbin’s ruling, is contesting the Fomena seat under the governing NPP.
The situation began when the Minority Leader and MP for Ejumako, Enyan Essien, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, brought the matter to the Speaker’s attention on the House floor, prompting a ruling. The Speaker later filed an application with the apex court, which ultimately dismissed it yesterday.
