On September 17, 2024, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) declared that it would stage nationwide protests against the way the Electoral Commission (EC) handled voter registration problems.
The party became concerned when they found multiple anomalies in the voter registration during the most recent voter exhibition exercise.
The NDC asked for a forensic examination of the register after a meeting with the EC to discuss these concerns, but their request was turned down.
Following the filing of John Mahama’s presidential candidacy paperwork, NDC Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketia informed the media about the upcoming statewide demonstration.
On September 17, protesters will march to regional EC offices in all 16 regional capitals, while national executives will present a formal petition at the EC’s headquarters in Accra.
Asiedu Nketia stated, “On September 17, the NDC will hold a massive nationwide demonstration in all 16 regional capitals, where we will target electoral commission officers. In Accra, we will deliver a formal petition to the headquarters, urging the EC to conduct itself in a manner that ensures a peaceful, free, and fair election.”
