In the event that it wins the general elections on December 7th, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has declared its intention to create a Women’s Development Bank.
These promises were stated by Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, the NDC’s running mate, during her formal party presentation on Wednesday, April 24, at the University of Professional Studies’ Kofi Ohene Konadu Auditorium (UPSA).
The bank’s mission is to support and expand women-owned enterprises by lending money to them.
Professor Opoku Agyemang said that the bank will lend money to small enterprises, underscoring the significance of female entrepreneurs having access to financing.
The running mate for the NDC said in her address that women should have the same opportunities as men to achieve financial success through hard work.
She asserts that Ghanaian women are fully capable of running the bank.
What she said:
“Women entrepreneurs must have access to capital for the entire sector to boost their businesses and that is why we will actively pursue the establishment of a Women’s Development Bank. To primarily nurture and grow women-owned businesses,”
“Women must become millionaires too through hard work as our men do. We do not need hands out, we need hands up. Women of Ghana are capable of managing the bank 100%,”
“The bank will take care of small-scale businesses to give them credit. Our envisage is broad and made up of trading associations and cooperatives, fully represented and making serious decisions and being accountable to its members. We can do it and all these add up to make a nation great,”
