The NDC has denounced the Akufo-Addo government’s Performance Tracker as a misallocation of resources. Instead of focusing on stabilizing the economy, the NDC argues that the time and effort spent on launching the tracker could have been more beneficial. Despite the government’s aim to boost transparency and accountability in infrastructure projects with the tracker’s introduction, Mustapha Gbande, Deputy General Secretary of the NDC, doubts its effectiveness in positively impacting the lives of Ghanaians.
He went on to criticize the government, suggesting that their priorities are out of sync with the real welfare needs of everyday Ghanaians.
“How will the performance [tracker] impact the ordinary Ghanaian who has not eaten in the last 24 hours? How would that impact the life of an old lady who is helpless but cannot get health care and government intervention?”
In an interview with Citi News, he emphasized that a capable government doesn’t need to boast about its accomplishments, as their actions speak louder than words. He cast doubt on the government’s assertions, remarking that the current state of infrastructure resembles a return to a cash and carry system. He also criticized the government’s attempt to showcase achievements through a performance tracker that fails to accurately depict reality on the ground.
So clearly, these are people who continue to lie. They continue to demonstrate that they don’t care about the ordinary Ghanaian. Because if the government performs well, you don’t need a tracker to showcase your performance, the people of Ghana will know.”
Mr. Gbande pointed out that the tracker fails to paint an accurate picture of the country’s progress, echoing the NDC’s worries regarding the government’s focus.
