New Chief Imam Installed In Ashanti Region
Sheikh Osmanu Nuhu Sharubutu, the National Chief Imam, presided over the ceremony in Kumasi where Sheikh Abdul Rahman Zakaria was sworn in as the new Ashanti Regional Chief Imam.
This comes after Sheik Abdul Mumin Haroun, the former Regional Chief Imam, who led the Muslim community in the area for 13 years, passed away on December 17 of last year.
The celebration, which also marked the final funeral rites of the respected Islamic Cleric, was attended by dignitaries from a wide range of backgrounds, including chiefs, politicians, and religious leaders.
The historic event marked a change in the Asante Kingdom’s Muslim rulers.
Following a brief illness at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi, Sheikh Abdul Mumin Haroun passed away at the age of 74.
In addition to his main responsibilities of conducting prayers and offering spiritual counseling, he is anticipated to be helpful in fostering harmony among the region’s heterogeneous Muslim community.
In order to create a cohesive society, this unity goes beyond political, religious, and tribal divides as well as common ideals.
Additionally, it is expected that the new Chief Imam will lead with honesty, justice, and impartiality, establishing a standard that others can follow.
In order to support the substantive Imam in carrying out his responsibilities, Sheikh Abass Karaara was also appointed as the Deputy Regional Chief Imam.
The National Chief Imam formally approved the appointment of the new Chief Imam by presenting him with a certificate of appreciation.
