New Council Of State Led By Doe Adjaho

Edward Doe Adjaho, a former Speaker of Parliament, has been named head of the newly established Council of State, which will provide advice to President John Dramani Mahama.
At a short ceremony held at the Jubilee House on Tuesday evening, the members—who include elected and appointed representatives—were sworn into office.
The Oath of Secrecy and the Oath of Membership in the Council of State were administered by the President.
This comes after 16 members were elected nationwide and 11 others, including former Chief Justice Sophia Akuffo, former Attorney-General and Minister of State Betty Mould Iddrisu, and former Zebilla MP Cletus Avoka, were appointed by President Mahama.
The appointments are in accordance with Articles 89 to 92 of the 1992 Constitution.
The Council of State is mandated to counsel the President on critical national matters, including the consideration of bills and appointments requiring consultation with the council.
