New internet data offers take effect today as government pushes for better value

Mobile data users in Ghana will from today, July 1, 2025, begin enjoying enhanced data bundle packages at no additional cost, following new directives from the Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations.New internet data offers take effect today.
The announcement, made last month by sector Minister Samuel Nartey George, takes effect today and requires all three major telecom operators—MTN Ghana, Telecel Ghana, and AT Ghana—to increase the volume of data offered under existing bundles while maintaining current prices.
Speaking at a press briefing on June 10, Mr George said the changes, which followed extensive stakeholder consultations, were designed to enhance value for consumers and restore fairness in the market.
“As of July 1, all data bundles will see at least a 10 per cent increase in value. For example, the GH¢400 bundle that previously gave 195 GB now delivers 236 GB,” he announced.
Under the new pricing regime, MTN Ghana, which has been designated as a Significant Market Power (SMP), will restore its previously altered GH¢399 bundle. The bundle, which had been reduced to 92.88 gigabytes at a GH¢350 price point, has now been reinstated to offer 214 gigabytes for GH¢399. All other MTN bundles will also reflect a 15 per cent increase in data value from today.
AT Ghana and Telecel Ghana have implemented a 10 per cent value increase across their existing bundles. For AT Ghana users, the GH¢400 bundle now offers 236 gigabytes, up from 195 GB. Telecel’s GH¢400 bundle has seen a more dramatic jump—from 90 gigabytes to 250 gigabytes.

Mr George expressed appreciation to the CEOs of the telecom companies for agreeing to absorb the cost of the new adjustments in order to bring immediate relief to consumers. “The increases are going to come at considerable costs to the network operators. However, I am glad that our engagements and consultations are bearing fruit for the Ghanaian people,” he stated.
To ensure compliance, the National Communications Authority (NCA) has been directed to monitor implementation of the new bundles and apply sanctions to any operator that fails to comply. The NCA will also begin quarterly billing integrity tests starting in Q3 2025 to verify accurate billing practices across popular apps and websites.
The Minister further noted that broader reforms are underway to bring down long-term data prices, including engagements with the Ministries of Finance and Energy to rationalise sector-specific taxes and utility tariffs. “If we are able to rationalise the almost 39 per cent tax build-up in the sector, we should see a drop in data pricing,” he said.
Mr George reaffirmed his commitment to both consumers and telecom investors, describing the sector as one he inherited in a “state of comatose.”
“I will serve you with heart, with swift and with black, and we will fix the mess I inherited in this ministry,” he said.
With the new offerings now active across all networks, Ghanaians are expected to enjoy greater value and improved transparency in telecom services going forward.
