34 new cases of Mpox have been recorded in Ghana, pushing the total case count to 79, according to the Ghana Health Service (GHS).
The cases are now spread across 10 regions, with health officials monitoring four patients who are currently on admission and under close observation, while contact tracing is underway to contain further spread.
The Ghana Health Service in a press statement announcing the new cases urged calm, stressing that the situation remains under control.
“There is no cause for alarm,” the GHS assured in the statement, adding that nationwide surveillance has been intensified in response to the spike.
Symptoms and transmission
Mpox, a viral disease formerly known as monkeypox, presents with symptoms such as rash, fever, headache, muscle pain, backache, low energy, and swollen lymph nodes.
The virus spreads primarily through close contact with an infected person, animal, or contaminated surfaces and materials.
The Ghana Health Service has advised the public to report suspected cases promptly and to maintain hygiene protocols, especially in areas with confirmed infections.
