The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has, in collaboration with the Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo), installed a 10/13 megavolt-amps (MVA) transformer at the Bulk Supply Point at Sogakope in the Volta Region.
This is to improve the supply of electricity in southern Volta Region, the Volta/Oti ECG Regional Manager, Christina Jatoe-Kaleo, said.
Conducting journalists round the facility last Friday, she said the GH¢969,867 transformer would largely benefit customers in the Sogakope, Akatsi, Keta, Adidome districts and parts of the Denu district of the company.
The new transformer would also reduce the frequency of power outages in southern Volta, Ms Jatoe-Kaleo added.
She explained that the demand for electricity was growing rapidly and that was piling up pressure on the old 15 megawatts transformer at the bulk supply point.
Ms Jatoe-Kaleo said the new transformer was commissioned on May 7.
Flexibility
“There will now be more flexibility and more capacity with the new transformer to improve power delivery and reliability,” she affirmed.
For now, she said, only Sogakope and Aflao had sub-stations in southern Volta Region.
The regional manager gave an assurance that the ECG would continue to commit zeal and resources towards improving power supply to its customers.
She reminded power consumers to settle their bills promptly to enable the company to provide quality services to the public.
That, Ms Jatoe-Kaleo said, would also enable the ECG to embark on more projects to enhance power supply to the nation.
