Newborn Found Abandoned In Manhole In Tema Community 1
A newborn baby that was thought to have been left behind right after delivery was found Wednesday at around 1900 hours and rescued from a manhole in Tema Community One, Site 12.
At the moment, the infant is being treated at Tema General Hospital.
The Padmore Electoral Area’s assemblyman, Charles Amos, stated that he was contacted by locals regarding the finding of an abandoned infant in a nearby manhole.
The placenta and umbilical cord were still attached to the infant when it was found, indicating that it had been abandoned shortly after delivery, Mr. Amos added, adding that the locals had carefully removed the baby from the manhole before he arrived.
According to him, the infant was discovered alive despite being in poor health. It was taken right away to the Tema Community One Police Station, where a complaint regarding the occurrence was filed, and then taken to the hospital for treatment.
The Assemblyman emphasized that leaving a baby behind is a crime that has legal penalties and appealed for greater knowledge about safe methods to turn over unwanted infants to Social Welfare and other organizations.
He urged the public to provide information on the baby’s mother and counseled teenage girls to refrain from leaving their children behind, teaching them to choose protected sexual contact if they were unable to refrain.
