Nigerian Police Nab 1,346 Kidnappers, Rapists In 5 weeks
The Nigeria Police Force reported on Friday, April 12, that they apprehended 1,346 individuals suspected of various crimes such as murder, kidnapping, armed robbery, gun trafficking, and sexual assault nationwide.
Additionally, they disclosed that they seized 143 firearms, 741 rounds of ammunition, and recovered 72 stolen vehicles. Moreover, they successfully rescued 461 individuals who had been kidnapped.
According to the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, these arrests and seizures were made under the leadership of Inspector General of Police Olukayode Egbetokun within the past five weeks. The suspects were paraded at the Force Intelligence Response Team’s station in Guzape, Abuja.
“Now, turning to recent crime-fighting achievements, within the period under review, we have recorded the arrest of 385 armed robbery suspects, 238 kidnapping suspects, 341 murder/homicide suspects, 87 suspects connected with the unlawful possession of prohibited firearms, 143 rape suspects, and 151 cultism suspects.
“We have also recovered 143 various firearms, 741 ammunition of various calibres, recovered 72 stolen vehicles and rescued 461 kidnapped victims across the country,” Adejobi said
He explained that the police are taking steps to protect the country from criminals. They have started checking the backgrounds of people who want to rent houses or work as domestic helpers in the Federal Capital Territory. They plan to do this in other states too.
He also mentioned that the police in the FCT arrested a person called Samaila Wakili Fafa, also known as Habu Ibrahim, on February 25, 2024. He is a kidnapper wanted by the FCT minister, and the police caught him based on good information they received.
In addition, he highlighted that the Nigeria Police Force acknowledges the importance of officer welfare in improving service delivery and has implemented strategic measures to ensure that its personnel are well taken care of.
